This is a special book and an especially good book. The author writes beautifully and her stories are interesting, compelling, entertaining, educational, and important. I learned a lot, about the world and, just as importantly, about empathy.

“How easily a life can become a litany of guilt and regret, a song that keeps echoing with the same chorus, with the inability to forgive ourselves. How easily the life we didn’t live becomes the only life we prize. How easily we are seduced by the fantasy that we are in control, that we were ever in control, that the things we could or should have doneor said have the power, if only we had done or said them, to cure pain, to erase suffering, to vanish loss. How easily we can cling to – worship – the choice we think we could or should have made.”
Edith Eva Eger, The Choice: Embrace the Possible

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau
“[Our world] seeks to encourage empathy, kindness, and compassion in children but seems suspicious of these same values in adults.”
Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, The 30-Day Vegan Challenge (New Edition): The Ultimate Guide to Eating Healthfully and Living Compassionately

Annika Thor
“A conversation is so much more than words: a conversation is eyes, smiles, the silences between words.”
Annika Thor, A Faraway Island

Edith Eger
“Time doesn't heal. It’s what you do with the time. Healing is possible when we choose to take responsibility, when we choose to take risks, and finally, when we choose to release the wound, to let go of the past or the grief.”
Edith Eger, The Choice: Embrace the Possible

Alan Brennert
“marveled at how two souls - two completely different species - could make each other so happy. If you were kind to animals, they repaid that kindness a thousandfold. People disappointed; animals never did.”
Alan Brennert, Daughter of Moloka'i
